Petition to the Mayor and City Council Members
- That NO positions in the Seattle Department of Transportation’s City Arborist’s office be cut. Our 100,000 street trees need the love of more than 2 field workers.
- Strengthen laws to protect a lot more trees from development, and encourage greater open space requirement.
- That the urban forest be fully funded at a rate equal to or greater than that required by The National Arbor Day Foundation to be deemed a ‘Tree City USA’ (and no cheating by counting the City Light line clearance money).
- Stop stonewalling the new Street Tree Ordinance (being revised for 10 years ?) and fully fund and enforce it.
- That the City Arborist be given the absolute authority and budget power over the various departments in charge of the trees of Seattle.
- That a Tree Advisory Board include members of the public and all City departments responsible toward City trees.
- That the City of Seattle live up to its Comprehensive Plan and be a true Leader in Environmental Stewardship, educate the public about Urban Forest.
- That the City of Seattle provide funding for the Seattle Heritage Tree Program.
